The Supercars series does not allow for a backup car, so the 28 cars that started this first race must finish all four. Whincup launched to the lead from the standing start, but several spins, including one that damaged the suspension to the number 33 Fujitsu Holden of Scott McLaughlin, brought out the yellow flag as McLaughlin limped to the pits. The chance of rain over the weekend is low.
